PREAMBLE |
| |
|
The Constitution is
based on the following basic principles :- |
| |
|

|
SELF DETERMINATION |
| |
|
All efforts of the
Association will be directed towards maintaining self
sufficient living among the Deaf |
| |
|
|
| |
|
PARTICIPATION |
| |
|
Needs will be
determined by direct involvement and participation of
the Deaf community |
| |
|
|
| |
|
ACCOUNTABILITY |
| |
|
The Association will
hold itself accountable at all times to its members,
to the Deaf Community and to its Sponsors by
maintaining impeccable financial and project records
and a high standard of Management |
| |
|
|
| |
|
EMPOWERMENT |
| |
|
All programme efforts
of the Association will be directed towards changing
perceptions of the Deaf Community as a group of
"Disabled" to a group of "Differently Abled" |
| |
|
|
| |
|
ALIGNMENT |
| |
|
The Association will
align itself with the brad aims and objectives of the
RDP and the National Training Initiative. The
Association endorses the belief that Economic
upliftment is based on the development of
economically viable skills |

|
|
| |
|
AFFIRMATIVE ACTION |
| |
|
The programme will
seek to redress the historical discrimination against
Deaf people within the wider community by providing a
source of skilled and semi-skilled people. In
addition the programme will re- dress the racial
imbalances in Leadership and Management within its
own Community |

|
|
| |
|
LANGUAGE RIGHTS |
| |
|
The Association
endorses the belief that Sign Language is a
legitimate National Language and will support these
rights and enforce appropriate communication
competencies among non Deaf volunteers and staff |
| |
|
|
| |
|
HUMAN RIGHTS |
| |
|
The Association will
align itself with the promotion of human rights of
the Deaf people in KwaZulu-Natal in all respects and
in all fields |
